The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a girl harboring several human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four distinct souls, all possessing their own anxieties and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, while additional clips depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core mechanic involves controlling the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have large blooms where their heads are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
