Palestinian-American Youth Released After Nine-Month Period in Israel's Detention

A Palestinian-American youth having endured nine months in Israel's custody without being charged has been freed.

The teenager Mohammed Ibrahim had just turned 15 during his detention this past winter within the occupied West Bank, during a family visit on holiday from Florida accused of stone-throwing against settlement residents, which he previously denied.

United States authorities applauded the news of Mohammed's release.

Currently aged sixteen, required hospitalization for treatment immediately after release, relatives told the media.

According to them, he appears pale, underweight, while battling health issues acquired while detained.

In a statement, family spokesperson conveyed their "immense relief".

The uncle, Zeyad Kadur stated the family experienced "surviving a terrible, unending nightmare" during the entire detention period.

"At this moment, our priority is getting Mohammed prompt healthcare necessary for his recovery after being subjected to harsh conditions and brutal treatment over several months."

American authorities said it would continue to provide consular support to the teenager's relatives.

{"The Trump Administration considers paramount to ensuring the safety of American nationals"," the department emphasized.

Twenty-seven US lawmakers submitted a formal letter to the state department and President Donald Trump, requesting additional efforts to release him.

Mohammed's parent, parent of four children who runs an ice cream business from Florida, previously said his child admitted guilt regarding stone throwing because the soldiers beat him.

There were no visits nor direct contact following the detention, receiving updates exclusively about his son's condition through judicial records.

Mohammed was held absent formal charges within Ofer penitentiary in the West Bank.

Additionally housing mature inmates, including individuals found guilty for major terrorist activities and homicide.

There are around 350 Palestinian child security detainees currently imprisoned in Israel, based on prison authority data.

Several lack formal charges while advocacy organizations, and international organizations, report instances of physical abuse and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, Mr Kadur said the family would also continue fighting demanding accountability for their family member Sayfollah Musallet.

The 20-year-old dual US citizen according to health authorities was beaten to death by settlement residents during a confrontation during summer.

Initially, defense forces stated officials were investigating information regarding a civilian was deceased.

Both young men collaborated at their family's ice cream business from Tampa.

No indictments occurred for the cousin's murder.

"We expect the American government to safeguard our relatives," family representatives emphasized.
