Music Legend Barry Manilow Scheduled for an Operation for Lung Cancer.

The singer has disclosed that he was diagnosed with a cancerous growth in his lung and is set to have an operation.

Spot Found in Initial Phase

The 82-year-old singer, famous for his series of beloved anthems from "Mandy" established him as one of pop music’s most beloved showmen, will have an operation to remove part of his lung in an effort to treat the disease, which is at an early phase.

“As my fans are aware, I recently went through six weeks of a severe cough followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

“Despite the fact that I was recovered from the illness and back on stage in Las Vegas, my excellent physician requested an MRI just to be certain that all was clear.

“The MRI discovered a tumor on my lung that must be removed. It’s sheer fortune (and a fantastic physician) that it was found so early.”

Postponed Performances

He has delayed a series of planned shows, but indicated he would be on stage again by mid-February for his enduring concert series in Las Vegas.

He went on to say: “The physicians do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to support their conclusion. So, that’s it. No chemo. Radiation therapy is off the table. Just chicken soup and classic TV.

“I’m counting the days until I return to my second home for our Vegas run for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.”

Decades in the Spotlight

Manilow is now in the 16th year of a residency in Nevada. The singer has spent decades in the public eye and publicly identified as gay in 2017, after wedding his longtime partner and manager privately in 2014.

The couple were in a clandestine partnership for in excess of 35 years. Last year, Manilow discussed how crucial his partner had been to him during his ascent to stardom in the 1970s.

“During my rapid rise to fame, it was just overwhelming. And, you know, coming home to an vacant room, you can land in a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re alone night after night,” he said.

“But I found my partner right around when it was exploding. And I didn’t have to go back to those isolated suites. I had a partner to be vulnerable with or to share joys with.

“I hope that newcomers today don’t have to go back to those rooms by themselves, because you might succumb to pitfalls. I never did. But it was very solitary until I met Garry. And then it was fun.”
