Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.

“It would be great to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”

He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction

Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.

“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”

Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to compete.”

“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
